The Significance

Vivah Sanskar is the complete Vedic wedding ceremony — one of the sixteen sacred sanskaras marking a soul's journey through life — binding two individuals as partners in dharma, artha, kama and moksha. Conducted around the sacred fire (Agni) as the eternal witness, the vidhi weaves together kanyadaan, mangalashtak, and the seven vows of saptapadi into a ceremony that is at once deeply spiritual and joyously festive. Our Aacharyas conduct the full vidhi with attention to the couple's specific regional sampradaya, while also offering muhurat consultation so the ceremony begins at the most auspicious hour for the couple's shared future.

Benefits of Vivah Sanskar

  • Sanctifies the union under Vedic dharma & tradition
  • Muhurat-aligned for the couple's auspicious beginning
  • Honours family and regional sampradaya customs
  • Guided saptapadi vows for lasting commitment
  • A beautifully explained, memorable ceremony for guests

The Vidhi

Step by step

How a Vivah Sanskar unfolds, from sankalp to aashirvad.

01

Ganesh Pooja & Sankalp

The ceremony opens with Ganesh pooja and sankalp taken by both families for the couple's union.

02

Var Puja & Kanyadaan

The groom is welcomed and honoured, followed by kanyadaan — the bride's father formally giving her hand in marriage.

03

Vivah Homa (Agni Sthapana)

The sacred fire is established as the divine witness to the marriage, with ahutis offered throughout the ceremony.

04

Mangalashtak & Panigrahan

Auspicious verses are recited as the couple's hands are joined, formalising their union before the assembled families.

05

Saptapadi

The couple takes seven steps around the sacred fire, each step a vow — for nourishment, strength, prosperity, happiness, progeny, longevity and lifelong friendship.

06

Sindoor Daan & Mangalsutra

The groom applies sindoor and ties the mangalsutra, marking the bride as his wife before all present.

07

Aashirwad & Aarti

Elders bless the couple, followed by a closing aarti and distribution of prasad.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can the vidhi be adapted to our regional tradition?

Yes — our Aacharyas conduct North Indian, South Indian, Bengali, Maharashtrian and other regional sampradayas; specify your tradition while booking.

Do you help with choosing the wedding muhurat?

Yes — muhurat consultation based on both families' nakshatras is included, or we can work with a muhurat already finalised by your family jyotish.

How long does the full vivah vidhi take?

Typically 3 to 5 hours depending on the regional tradition and number of ceremonies combined (e.g. haldi, mandap pooja) on the same day.

Can the ceremony be explained in English for guests?

Yes — many of our Aacharyas conduct the vidhi bilingually so both families and out-of-town guests can follow every step.
